A Miniature Praying Mantis

I have been seeing Praying Mantis insects quite often in our backyard for the past years. Most of the praying mantis that I have seen were mostly fully grown adult ones around three inches long. Recently, while hanging out in the garden patio area, in the corner of my eyes I noticed a very tiny green insect in our fabric outdoor swing. When I went to take a closer look at it, I realized that it was a miniature praying mantis! Praying Mantis always fascinates me because they look like they are always praying, as their popular name emplies. But seeing the little fellow fascinated me even more because I never seen one before that tiny and small, barely an inch long. Thanks to new technology of digital cameras nowadays, I was able to capture this tiny little creature with my point-and-shoot digital camera in macro mode. Dont let the photo above fool you, its the wonders of technology at work which makes this insect look like a giant in photograph because in contrary it was so small, you can barely see it. I called it a miniature praying mantis but I assumed that it is a baby praying mantis? They look just like the fully grown adult praying mantis, the only difference, from what i observed, is the size, they look like a shrunken version of the adult ones.

Gentle Giant Cat Fish

We have this cat fish for several years already. We bought her when she was a very tiny little fish, around an inch total length. Now, she is more than a foot long! Quite a gentle giant, I should say, doesn't move much, pretty much want to be left alone most of the time. Her favorite places in the tank is in the corner or dark places where the rest of the fishes give her the least destruction possible.

When we bought her at a local store, we were told that a cat fish is a great fish to have to keep the tank clean because they eat on algeas, so any algeas that are being developed in the tank can be a great food source for this gentle giant. You can also purchase algea tablets in most pet stores for feeding them.

We have several different types of fish in our tank. And our cat fish seems to get along with most of them pretty well. The only time I remember than she had a problem with another fish was when we had this super energetic bothersome Koi fish that drives her up a wall. It was not her fault though, the Koi fish was the one that bumps into her, and bothers her, and as a result she did try to chase that koi fish once in awhile. Unfortunately, that Koi fish passed away, and so far none of the other fishes we have seems to really bother her anymore. As long as she have her little corner away from the school of fish, she is pretty much happy and content!

High Priced Disposable Laptop

Almost two years ago I purchased a brand new laptop with all the hypes and whistles available at that time. Its amazing how technology change so fast because everything in that laptop computer is turning obsolete in comparison to what is available nowadays. The worst part is that its only been almost two years and its no longer functional. Since I didnt availed the extended warranty, I cannot get help from the manufacturer without paying to get help or assistance from them which kind of a bummer because paying almost a thousand dollars for an item that broke down even before two years and not get any fixing help is really poor customer service on their part. So we been trying to figure it out ourselves, by process of elimination, having disected such computer, its clear that its not the battery, the ac adapter, nor the CPU that is the problem. Its probably the motherboard that is having an issue which is a complete bummer because it should not have such problem only after two years. In my opinion, motherboards should last a lifetime, atleast 10 years.

Its sad that many computers are built to fall apart within the first two to three years of its purchase, basing on all the readings and research that I have done, I am definitely not alone having issues with broken computer just after two years. Im sure I can find a way to fix it, but the sad thing is the specifications are a little bit outdated as today standards. I only have 4GB RAM, when you can get 8GB to 16GB RAM nowadays. I have a dual core processor in this laptop when nowadays the more powerful quad core, or even six core are already out in the market! Not to mentioned such laptop only have 300GB hard drive, it sounds like a lot of memory at that time but its hardly any space for a person with all the games, graphics, photos that we store nowadays, right? I would definitely prefer atleast 750GB up to 2TB in it.

The amount of money I paid for my laptop two years ago, I can definitely get three times better unit and new. By trying to upgrade my laptop, I would be better off buying a new one. Upgrading RAMS, CPU, hard disk takes time and money and everything adds up, by the time I add everything, I can probably get a new computer cheaper with better and faster performance than my upgraded one. As a consumer, makes you feel like your high priced (one thousand dollar) investment is just a disposable item when they only last for two years by either breaking down or becoming outdated.

Knowledge Is The Key

I contacted the customer service of one of our utility service regarding a unit we have that is not working or functioning properly. After several hours of interaction with the customer service, the issue was never resolved and told me that he burned out all the possible options and resources available to for him to solve the issue. So he assumed that the unit is the problem and need to be replaced, instead of the connections or settings. We finished our interaction without the issue being solved.

Few hours later, I decided to contact the customer service, this time its another person on the other end of the line. The new customer service representative handling my concerns of their service was definitely more knowledgable. She managed to go through all the mace of the issues, and found a solution in few minutes and was able to let the unit function properly.

Same unit, same service, different customer service representative, one dont know what to do, the other one was able to solve the problem of their service with a breeze. Its amazing what knowledge can do. One knew their service in and out, the other one still need to familiarize more with their system and be able to solve issues that come up with their services and help their customers more effeciently and quickly.

Because It Is The Right Thing To Do

I purchased an item online but then my ordered never came in the mail after weeks of waiting and anticipation. So I emailed the seller that I never received the order and I got refunded in full for my purchase. Few days later, the order came in, just as promised! Now that Im fully refunded for it, I could have it for free and nobody will know (?) but I want a clear conscience and a peace of mind, so I get hold of the seller right away to let him know that I finally get the item late in the mail and that I am willing to pay the same amount that I originally paid for. Simply because I dont feel right keeping the item for free just because it came in late and I was refunded for it. Now that I got it, although it was delayed, I have to repay it, unless the seller replied me back and tell me that I can have it for free. But I might as well try to let him know that I got the item finally, you never know why the seller sold the item in the first place, maybe because he needed the money and sacrificed selling the item. Nobody is telling me to repay the item but i always try to live by some of lifes simple rules like honesty is the best policy.

First Snow Storm Of The Season In Northern CA

Its only November and the weather NEWS here in northern California have been talking about snow storms in both high and low elevations. I think this is the first snow storm of the season (fall season) and they are already talking snow storm as low as 1500-2000 feet elevation, thats in the foothills of the sierra. In other states like Washington, there is snow all the way to the ocean because the cold Alaskan air is heading towards the south including California. Way Too Hot For Fall

Where I live, yesterday was record breaking 100 plus degrees fahrenheit and its fall season. Its already fall season and we are still dealing with hot summer days temperature here in California. To my dismay, I had to go out yesterday and had to deal with the high temperature being in the car. Even with the car air conditionining running full-blast, I can still feel the baking hot temperature in the air especially coming in and out of the vehicle after it sat there for hours in the sun.

My Ideal Kitchen

When it comes to cooking, its mostly the women or the wives that play huge part in the kitchen operation. In my household, I do most of the cooking. My husband does cook occassionally but he still wants me to do most of the preparations of ingredients like dicing, slicing, etc. Having too many hours spent in the kitchen, I know what I like to be more functional in my kitchen like a huge stainless steel kitchen sink where I can easily wash small items as well as big items like pots and pans with less water spillage in the floor. I have many years of experience using small sink so I know how hard it is to wash bigger items on it.

Having a lot of cabinets for storage is necessary and plenty of countertops is ideal inorder for me to have plenty of work space to have a place to put all my ingredients and countertop appliances. I always wanted to have a butcher block countertop which will also serve as a movable kitchen island where I can easily prepare most of the ingredients for my cooking.

I like having a deck or a patio next to the kitchen so that I can cook in the kitchen and carry the foods outside for a nice outdoor meal and then later relax in the an adirondack chair and enjoy the weather.

Our Huge Shade Tree

We have this huge shade tree in the backyard that i like because it gives us a lot of shades especially during summer time when it gets really hot. We live in an area that we frequently get more than 100 degrees fahrenheit temperature during the summer, so having a shade tree like it is very benefecial especially for our electricity bills because this tree is situated near the house blocking some direct sunlight in one side of house in the afternoon, where the sun hit most during that time of day.

The problem with this tree is that during fall season it has all these leaves that fall in our patio that we need to clean up almost daily through out the season. This tree is full of leaves, and all of them are gonna fall by the end of the season, every year. Not only that, this same tree have sticky saps that stick to the falling leaves and I mean sticky. So when we step/walk into the falling leaves, some leaves stick to our shoes and slippers and can easily get carried inside the house. Our dogs can even carry leaves inside the house with their paws.

Fall is near and the leaves of this tree started to fall and the saps too, so its going to be another busy autumn season for us cleaning up the mess that our tree produce. But its hard to take it down and replace because its a full grown mature tree already and it helps us a lot during the summer and gives us plenty of shade and be able to enjoy our backyard without baking in the sun.
